St. Croix Valley Interstate Group

For Stillwater, Eastern Minnesota & Western Wisconsin

The St. Croix Valley Interstate Group is comprised of over 1200 friends and neighbors from the Minnesota and Wisconsin side of the lower St. Croix Valley. The SCVIG encompasses Chisago, Pine and eastern Washington counties, plus the city of Hastings in Minnesota and Burnett, Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin.

The focal point of the St. Croix Valley Interstate Group is preserving and protecting the St. Croix river and its surrounding area for generations to come while at the same time encouraging the responsible enjoyment of this national treasure. Local Sierra Club members also work on a diverse set of local, statewide and national issues including agriculture, forestry, urban sprawl, water and air pollution, global population, global warming, mining, renewable energy and solid waste.

Protect the Wild & Scenic St. Croix River

Sierra Club activists, Jim Rickard, Ron Carlson & Audrey Halverson, with our St. Croix Valley Interstate Group, were all recently profiled for their efforts to protect the St. Croix River Valley in a feature article in Minnesota Monthly. Growth pressures around the St. Croix River reflect the fact that the Twin Cities area is growing, and the pressures of population growth and development are felt across the region. Learn more about what the Sierra Club is doing to promote 'smart growth' that promotes quality of life and protection of open space.
