The History of the Bookmark Project
These bookmarks were created through a cooperative effort by three Minnesota businesses: Monarch Graphics, Rose Creek Anglers, and Graphics Alive, in conjunction with the Sierra Club North Star Chapter in Minnesota.
Concern for the health and well being of future generations brought the officers of these three companies together to raise questions about our use of coal. Working together on several business projects led to many conversations about our love for outdoor activities and environmental threats that affect us all.
Rich from Rose Creek Anglers is on the Sierra Club North Star Chapter's Clean Air Committee and became interested in bringing public awareness to the effects that sulfur dioxide emissions have on the creation of acid rain, which has devastated many rivers in acid sensitive areas. Learning more about other emissions from burning coal gave more reason to do something to bring attention to this issue. Mindful of Ellen's artistic talent (Graphics Alive) and Steve's printing talent (Monarch Graphics), Rich suggested to the others that literature be created for educational purposes. After countless hours of Ellen's creative work, the paper contribution and print time from Steve, a matching contribution from Rich, and the efforts of the Sierra Club, we would like you to enjoy using our bookmarks, talk about their messages with your friends, and support and encourage programs that reduce emissions from coal-burning power plants.The History of the Bookmark Project
